apathy-endsToday I’d like to share my guest post over on Apathy Ends. Here’s a snippet, but please click on over to read the top 10 Simple Ways I keep my grocery spending low each month.

Is your grocery bill killing your monthly budget? It’s likely food is one of your largest expenses. Food expenses rank fourth in consumer expenditures, right behind housing, transportation and insurance.

Yet, grocery expenses are also one of the most flexible, controllable expenses you have. Lowering your grocery bill could add up to hundreds, even thousands of dollars each year. So what are you waiting for? Get working on that grocery bill!

My family has been able to slash our grocery expenses by 50% without using coupons or significantly changing how we eat or shop. With a little planning, preparation (and cooking, of course), you can do the same!…

    Hi Amanda,

Read your post, nice set of ideas. I am a big fan of meal planning.

Do you use money saving apps like Walmart Savings Catcher, Ibotta, SavingsStar, Checkout51 and the like? You could save more with cash rebates.

Thanks, Michael! Meal planning is a necessity for me to navigate through my week! I haven’t used savings apps up to this point, but recently signed up for Ibotta to see if it works for me. I buy a ton of generic food, so I’m not sure it’s going to save me much, but I’m definitely willing to give it a try!

Here is what we have saved in roughly a year:

        Walmart Savings Catcher: $33.75
        Ibotta: $41.85
        SavingStar: $17.23

We haven’t used the apps 100% of the time – roughly 80% of the time and I use the app / discounts only when it makes sense – I don’t go out and buy something because it is on a discount.

Thanks so much for sharing your savings, Michael! Maybe Ibotta will pay off for me. It’s also good to know you aren’t buying items just to realize the offered discounts – that’s always my main concern with savings apps and coupons.
